Cornella Funke has produced many classics such as INKHEART, but THE THIEF LORD is definitely the most intriguing, the most edge-of-your-seat, the most entrancing, and the most wonderful overall. The plot is virtually perfect and this review is well deserving of its ten stars. I remember renting this book out of the library numerous times, and for good reason. This book is a good read for anybody wishing for a fast-paced, adventurous novel.

SOME MATERIAL MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE
HOMEBOYZ is a strangely compelling novel that once you pick up, you can not put down due to its near flawless plotline and writing flow. This novel is chiefly about a computer hacker extraordinaire who lost his sister to the ghetto and took on the gangs by just himself and a recent acquaintance called Micah. HOMEBOYZ is surprisingly good; you wouldn't think it by just looking at the back cover, but it's true. Best for kids above ten years old-some inappropriate content.

Charlotte's web is almost a classic... or is it already? Almost everyone in the literate world knows this entrancing story about a girl, a pig, and the spider who saves the pig's life on multiple occasions by sewing praises and messages above him with her web. This book is an excellent read, though it is extremely sad at the end, for anyone age 8 to adult and is fantastic. CHARLOTTE'S WEB may be E.B. White's most famous work, comparable to Stuart Little. 10 stars, at the blink of an eye.

I've read this book many times since I was a little kid over and over. In this fantastic novel, a boy called Milo, bored with the world, is sucked into a new world where parodies on math and reading are often played and realization finally dawns upon Milo that the world is not just a bunch of humdrum, but really something you need to cherish. Norton Juster has created a masterpiece here, one that has been remembered many times over the ages. This book is great for any age, and that's including adults. 10 stars.

A CHILD CALLED "IT" is a documentary of one of the most brutal child abuse cases ever. Dave Pelzer recalls in this memoir how his horrifying mother beat him regularly and concocted terrible punishments such as homemade gas chambers and the digestion of execration. This story is written in the most gripping way imaginable and makes you feel for Pelzer as he describes torture after torture. Not for the soft hearted, at 10 stars,

SPY SCHOOL by Stuart Gibbs

Don't judge this book by its cover - it may superficially seem like a James Bond kid cliche, but the plot line and story of this book is fantastic and original. SPY SCHOOL is a story written about a kid recruited for a CIA training facility in order to discover a mole in the government system. Ben Ripley doesn't even know why he's here, but he immediately becomes well-known at the school, in both a good way and a bad one. Slightly better than the sequel, SPY CAMP, with edge-of-your-seat action packed superbly into the tale. Don't miss out on this book! Best for ages 8 to 15.

SOME CONTENT MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN
I wouldn't be surprised if this novel gets at least a Newbery Medal. PANIC is an excellent book that follows the story of a girl called Diamond Landers who makes a bad decision and gets kidnapped. Diamond and her family have to go through constant hardships for a very long time in this stunningly serious novel by Sharon M. Draper. PANIC is a good novel but a little freaky at times. If you want to become paranoid, here's what to read. 10 stars.

One of the best science fiction novels of our time, ENDER'S GAME is the kind of book that you really get into. The first three chapters can be confusing for somebody, but after that, it all makes sense to a degree where you are seeing the movie multiple times and are buying all of the other books in this series. In this book, a boy called Ender rises to fame in a school designed for the best commanders, eventually and unknowingly fighting the aliens that threaten his home world, despite the psychological effects.

An excellent book where the protagonist, a boy who calls himself Pi, is stuck on a boat with a tiger after a shipwreck occurred. Together, they begin to relax in each other's presences and create a bond as they travel across the ocean, visiting various islands and having food issues. This book is deeply spiritual, and even though there is no action, like THE GIVER you just can't put it down once you already have it in your hands. Middle ten stars for a great book!

TANGERINE follows the life of near blind Paul Fisher. You go with him as he overcomes obstacles such as coping with moving to a new town in Florida, death, sinkholes, bullies, betrayal by his very own brother, and of course, his inability to see. Edward Bloor has created a masterful work, one of which I greatly enjoy reading - truly, I, nor anyone I know, can put this book down even to go to the restroom. TANGERINE is a perfect book for kids aged 8 to 18, and immediately gets 10 stars.

Everything about this story is impeccable, from the structure to the pure unfolding of this story. This is by far Kate DiCamillo's greatest work. 10 stars.

In this novel, you find yourself immersed in the world of nerdy Arnold Spirit and his quest to be recognized by members of his society, for he is a pariah within his community but a hero in another. This book reminds me deeply of the DIARY OF A WIMPY KID saga, and is an excellent story to enjoy.

NEWBERY HONOREE
HATCHET by Gary Paulsen is an okay book about a boy who survives an airplane crash and has to live by a L-shaped lake next to a huge forest with a hatchet and the instruments of nature. HATCHET is a good book for survivalists who want to think about and draw up their own contingency plans, or a decent novel for anybody ages 8 to 16. Gary Paulsen has here created a novel well worthy of recognition, as evidenced by the Newbery Medal.

TOUCHING SPIRIT BEAR by Ben Mikaelson

(*9)
TOUCHING SPIRIT BEAR is a great book about a kid called Cole, who faces a severe punishment for his latest crime: either go to jail or live by himself as an Indian would for a year. Cole picks the latter. However, on his first day living as a Native American, he gets mauled by a bear. Though this bear has physically harmed him, it may very well heal him in a manner that no human psychologist could do today. TOUCHING SPIRIT BEAR is a fantastic book for pretty much anybody, all ages.

THE SCHWA WAS HERE by Neil Shusterman

(S*9)
A remarkable book for anybody above 10 years old, THE SCHWA WAS HERE is about a child who has the rare ability to disappear from the human eye and his concerns about disappearing altogether like his mother supposedly did, but narrated from the voice of Antsy Bonano, who makes the story even more interesting. An excellent book that is quite commendable and a must read for any kids in a similar situation or just looking for a good story, at 9 stars.

NOBODY'S BOY by Hector Malot
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/361637.jpg?113)
(*9)
A very interesting story in which an orphaned boy called Remi travels the country of France with an entrepreneuring charlatan. Along the way, Remi and his business partner discover many delights and downfalls. NOBODY'S BOY is an excellent book that should be read by most anyone, but it's probably best for ages 10 to 18, as it can get more mature than some other books. NOBODY'S BOY is worthy of recognition; a fantastic book.

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH by Roald Dahl
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/5913042.jpg?114)
(*9)
The first book that Dahl wrote, it may as well be one of the best. JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH is about a harassed young boy who escapes his cruel aunts by means of a magically mutated peach. Inside that peach, James finds new friends and faces many challenges. A great book for any fans of Dahl's style or for kids ages 6 to 12, JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH is a spectacular book for all who happen to be interested in a great adventure.

STUART LITTLE by E.B. White
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/2994437.jpg?112)
(S*9)
Though it may be a book for slightly younger kids, STUART LITTLE is a classic that endures an entire generation. This absolutely delightful story is about a mouse who travels through many places, from window-blinds to miniature sailing boats to save his bird friend Margo. STUART LITTLE is a classic that has been around since 1945 and is really great for anybody, despite normal personal preferences. High 9 stars seems appropriate for this novella.

THE TALE OF DESPARAUX by Kate DiCamillo

(*9)
NEWBERY MEDAL
Kate DiCamillo once again employs her fantastic literary prose and talent in this novel featuring a mouse who wants to do a lot in life, a princess, a rat, and a common but aspiring girl whose tales intertwine to no means, eventually combining to form a spectacular story. THE TALE OF DESPARAUX is interesting enough to pass as a readable book, but not that good as to claim itself on the 10 star shelf. Best for children ages 8 to 16, at a solid 9.0 stars.

TUCK EVERLASTING by Nattalie Babbit

(*9)
A family realizes that drinking from an enchanted well gives them the so-called "gift" of immortality. At first, they love this situation, but later, they start to ponder whether "you can really live without dying". This is an excellent book that could also be considered as a classic, but this category seemed more appropriate. TUCK EVERLASTING is fantastic for any kid above 10 years old, or anybody searching for a really in-depth and occasionally philosophical story which somehow manages to tell a good story as well. 9 stars.

WHICH WITCH? by Eva Ibbotson
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/3752296.jpg?119)
(*9)
This book is an easy read, but how it is so great is hard to comprehend, though it is there. WHICH WITCH? is written in a relatively simplistic style, with one wizard searching for a suitable mate and holding a competition for it. However, Ibbotson employs a writing style that makes each and every moment seem like something extraordinarily dangerous and exciting is happening. A great book to read over and over countless times, but best form ages 6 to 14, this book immediately gets 9 stars upon it.

IQBAL by Francesco D'Adamo
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/1368446.jpg?113)
(*9)
This historical fiction compiled by Francesco D'Adamo is hard to believe that it actually happened. Iqbal, a Pakistani child who overcomes many obstacles, frees himself and his friends from the bonds of slavery. However, his rise to fame also lead to his death. IQBAL is a fantastic book for anybody aged 9 to 18, but those are no limits. This story undeniably has a great setting, timing, style, all of which the author has managed to pull from a real story.

NUMBERING ALL THE BONES by Ann Rinaldi
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/319309.jpg?124)
(*9)
This is a very serious book about a girl who was born to a slave and her master and has to cope with being biracial in the time of the civil war, which is way harder than it sounds. NUMBERING ALL THE BONES is a well-compiled book and should be read by any kid 8-18. Ann Rinaldi could have made it a bit better, because at some points in the book you begin to feel bored. I therefore award this a middle nine stars- an okay novel.

THE MOUSE AND THE MOTORCYCLE by Beverly Cleary
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/4990293.jpg?111)

An excellent story about a normal mouse struggling for survival on top of becoming infatuated with a miniature functioning motorcycle a nice boy lent him whilst trying to please his family. Ralph uses his motorcycle as a way to escape, a gateway to the good life. A great book for kids of any age, with its extraordinary writing style and plotline itself, THE MOUSE AND THE MOTORCYCLE is probably Beverly Cleary's best novel by far, at 9 stars.

BAD BOY: A MEMOIR by Walter Dean Myers
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/2686826.jpg?123)
(*9)
Not too exciting from the beginning, BAD BOY is still okay at the start and terrific at the back. This book details the life of Walter, who got as bad as you could get in the ghetto, purposely tipping over buses and bullying everybody at school - and then rising out of the slums and becoming someone to be proud of, an accomplished author. BAD BOY is a good book to pick up once in a while - it may be short, but you will find yourself rereading it over and over again.

THE SCHOOL STORY by Andrew Clements

(*9)
Andrew Clements is an excellent author for younger children. THE SCHOOL STORY is one of his best books by far, comparable to his other FRINDLE. Written about a girl who is convinced to get a book published to her mom's company by her friend and a teacher, THE SCHOOL STORY is eloquently put and has a dynamic plot that would prove worthy to anyone up to a reading level equivalent to grade 6, but others can read it too. This is a fun book for all to enjoy.

NEWBERY MEDAL
A WRINKLE IN TIME by Madeleine L'Engle is a superb book for children aged 8 to 18. This novel follows the journey of some unsuspecting kids and their zany chaperones (you don't have to believe me on all this - read it yourself!) all across the universe and through strange locales to meet strange people. Written with a perfectly agile prose and a plot that is just as great, A WRINKLE IN TIME certainly deserves the numerous awards bestowed upon it.

An excellent book about a small family of Jews in Denmark escaping the Nazis in WWII to seek refuge in Sweden, NUMBER THE STARS is Lois Lowry's second-best book, comparable to THE GIVER. This book is skillfully written in the language of younger kids. Probably best for World War Two fans or children aged 8 to 14, This book is a good read at any time and probably wasn't given the Newbery Medal for nothing, at 9 stars.

CONTACT by Carl Sagan

This is a wonderful science fiction about a woman driven by pure will and determination to contact aliens on the star Vega, build an interdimensional portal, and travel to that extraterrestrial world, surviving terrorist plots, dangerous "space shuttles", nazi sympathizers, and many egotistical scientists. The question of religious doubt combined with the thought of extraterrestrial life makes this a perfect book for any lover of sci-fi scenarios.

THE SECRET OF PLATFORM 13 by Eva Ibbotson

This is a novel to read for all alter-realistic, fantasy-enthusiastic readers. The journey of a small group of kind people racing to find a lost prince have to overcome many mind numbing obstacles. Eva Ibbotson perfectly employs her words to flow in a way that is almost indescribable; anybody aged 8 to 18 should try this book no matter their reading levels or preferences. Every time I read this, I get lost in just one of Eva Ibbotson's fantastic worlds.

This is a nice novel for younger children (e.g. 12-8 years old). It strongly reminds me of the book BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE. A family got a new dog, made a bunch of freinds, lost the dog, and rejoiced when they recovered the dog. However, the style of writing is perfect- it makes you pining to see the dog returned, always excited to read more, and interested in the Pye family's everyday troubles.

LET THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN by Mildred D. Taylor

(S*9)
A sequel to ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY ( also on this page) this book may be even better than the original. Mildred D. Taylor once again explores the world of racial prejudice in the early 1900's. This is a fantastic book, not only as a school assignment as I relieved it, but also as a go-to book for anybody seeking an interesting story. LET THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN is a prodigious masterpiece, one of which I read at least once every month and a half.

Madeleine L'Engle's work A SWIFTLY TILTING PLANET is almost as good as the first book in the series, A WRINKLE IN TIME. To quote a recent review, "The saga is well crafted with some scenes that are truly exciting" That basically sums it up. An excellent book about a 15 year old kid called Charles Wallace who uses a rune to travel in time and save planet Earth from utter destruction. An excellent book that should be read by all, A SWIFTLY TILTING PLANET gets 9 stars. That

(S*10)
Though it may be written in a graphic novel format, PERSEPOLIS is a remarkable story and memoir about a twisted childhood in Iran where regimes rise and fall through people dying or getting somehow hurt. In the end, Marjane gets to go to America, but she has to endure all kinds of hardships, from carpet bombings to simply putting on a burka. PERSEPOLIS is an excellent book that is extremely hard to put down once you've already started and should be read by and decent book fan.

The absolutely true diary of a young Jewish girl hiding with her family and friends in the time of the Nazi invasion of Poland. This book is very interesting and you will most likely find yourself finishing it in one sitting if you are a good reader. THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK is just as shocking as the afterword that describes their deaths - a primary account of what it was like to constantly be in fear of being shot, jailed, or worse. This book is best for children aged 10 and up, all nationalities.

The paranormal is Eva Ibbotson's norm, which is proved even more with another fantastic book about witches. Written about a humanitarian and vegetarian witch who teams up with others of her kind to stop evildoers, compete with her childhood friend, and at the end, take down her manipulative, cheating, and despicable boyfriend. This story has quite an interesting plot and should be read by anyone aged 8 to 14. The perfect book for fans of the surreal.

THE WITCHES by Roald Dahl

One of Roald Dahl's best works, along with MATILDA and JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH. An excellently written story, THE WITCHES tells the tale of a boy whose grandma reveals to him the truth: witches exist, and they are abundantly scattered all over the world with a gigantic fortress/base in Norway. After two close shaves earlier in life, the rather eccentric yet delightful main character confronts the Grand High Council of Witches and takes them on in an epic battle. 9 stars.
