JANE EYRE by Charlotte Bronte
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/7026887.jpg?105)
(*10)
A masterful story about an orphaned young girl constantly abused and tortured, JANE EYRE follows that girl in her quest for freedom from her terrifying oppressors and a search for love, which she eventually accomplishes in a roundabout way. JANE EYRE is a story well worth of recognition and its ten stars, forever to be accepted by society as a book that should be read by anyone age ten and up, for this classic of literature is most likely the best by the Bronte sisters.

SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON by Johann Wyss
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/9173632.jpg?93)
(*10)
This is one of the less famous classics, which most people say could not compare to THE THREE MUSKETEERS or ROBINSON CRUSOE. I disagree. This is perhaps the number one best classic novel written. Skillfully penned with a writing style that is unique in a good way, and based on a plot that is downright, fantastically, amazing. Everything about this book makes me want to shout my review to the whole world, for all should read this and absorb themselves into a world like no other created by Johann Wyss.

THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER by Mark Twain
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/2313007.jpg?108)
(*10)
THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER is a story about two children in completely different social classes (royalty and street scum) but completely the same in looks who bump into each other, talk, and decide to switch places, the prince becoming the pauper and vice versa. Both parties learn a lot in their selective paths about how difficult it is for the other - they eventually decide to switch back. An excellent book that successfully exploits childish thinking, THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER is a book for everyone.

HUCKLEBERRY FINN by Mark Twain
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/1336778.jpg?111)
(*10)
Adjoining to Mark Twain's earlier TOM SAWYER, this novel exploits the boyish innocence, friendliness, and courage of young Huckleberry Finn as he travels with his close friend Jim, who also happens to be a liberated slave. Making their way through lynch mobs, Huckleberry's drunken dad, and two con artists, all while enjoying themselves and providing an excellent story, HUCKLEBERRY FINN is a book for all to enjoy, probably even better than Twain's stories about Tom Sawyer.

THE ODYSSEY by Homer
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/7148851.jpg?131)
(S*10)
This author with one name managed to produce the oldest and the best classics ever. This remarkable semi-sequel of THE ILIAD, told in the form of poetry, gives us the story of Odysseus, a hero who travels home after the fall of Troy, through obstacles like cyclops, lotus eaters, mythical creatures, and laestrygonians, but is cursed to return after ten whole years while his crew die off. This is a great classic that should be read by anyone 12 and up. 10 stars.

ROMEO AND JULIET by William Shakespeare
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/1983331.jpg)
(*10)
ROMEO AND JULIET has been reproduced and remade countless times, until it was transformed into a legend. Everybody knows the story of the lovers whose selective sides were at war, the story of their life, and then their pointless suicides. ROMEO AND JULIET is Shakespeare's best-known play, and for a reason: that reason being the depth and charm of the story, and of the reader's inability to put it down. This is a fantastic story for absolutely anyone at any age.

MOBY DICK by Herman Melville
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/2979781.jpg?118)
(*10)
MOBY DICK's opening sentence is "Call me Ishmael." This is one of the most famous book openings ever, which continues into an equally famous book. Ishmael joins a crew run by determined Captain Ahab in a futile attempt to kill the great whale nicknamed Moby Dick. This is an utterly fantastic story, with absolutely perfect characters, themes, and even style of writing, for this must be so famous for a reason. 10 stars, immediately.

THE CALL OF THE WILD by Jack London
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/7902075.jpg?117)
(*10)
This story, parodied countless times, follows the path of a dog who joins a pack of wild wolves upon his masters' death. This is a true American classic that should be read by people of all ages who wish to ponder deep thoughts, as London invokes them well. As THE CALL OF THE WILD progresses, you can find yourself immersed into the canine world while Buck adventures into, well, the wild. This story mainly proves that it's better without civilization. This is the perfect book for all fans of Jack London.

MACBETH by William Shakespeare
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/6930469.jpg?115)
(*10)
SOME PARTS MAY NOT BE FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN
MACBETH is considered to be the unluckiest and tragic of Shakespeare's plays. Some actors refuse to perform it when presented as a play , but you would really miss out if you didn't also read it as it was wrote. MACBETH is basically one of those stories where everybody dies at the end, but this is one of Shakespeare's most creative plays without a doubt, integrating the unusual presence of ghosts and witches into his story. Read this if you want to go in-depth.

DRACULA by Bram Stoker
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/8132761.jpg?113)
(*10)
SOME PARTS MAY NOT BE FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN
A blood-curdling story about the vampire, Dracula (or Vlad the Impaler), who battles a small group of men and women who want to eradicate him just as he himself tries to leave Transylvania. DRACULA is a fascinatingly horrifying epic that scares me every time and is unique because of its style - the kind where the story is told from multiple perspectives of different journal and diary entries from different people. All of the cheesy vampire novels of today have descended from this one great story, which is the polar opposite of cheesy. A must read, at 10 out of 10 stars.

20,000 LEAUGUES UNDER THE SEA by Jules Verne
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/723805.jpg?111)
(*10)
Jules Verne has always been a visionary through his work - predicting major submarines and travel through the Earth in a creative but interesting manner. A true master of writing what we perceive as classics, Jules Verne here wrote a great book about a man called Captain Nemo and his submarine, the fantastic Nautilus. Do you want a good science fiction novel? Put down what you are reading now and switch to this book, recommended for anybody above age 10.

ROBINSON CRUSOE by Daniel Defoe
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/7149616.jpg?105)
(*10)
Daniel Defoe establishes a well-renowned and simultaneously classic dramatizes about what life on a desert island would be like in ROBINSON CRUSOE, as Crusoe himself struggles to survive throughout the most bizarre of situations. This is an excellent, intriguing book that I, personally, could not put down under any given circumstance until I finished it. I definitely will not hesitate to give it 10 stars. It can be enjoyed by all kinds of people, young or old.

HAMLET by William Shakespeare
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/3360941.jpg?107)
(*10)
SOME SCENES MAY NOT BE FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN
"To be, or not to be? That is the question" may very well be Shakespeare's most famous line. Indeed, this is also one of his best books. As young Hamlet receives supernatural guidance from his dead dad, which does not help, as soon everybody wants to kill each other. And, true enough to the morbid legacy of Shakespeare, everyone ends up deceased at the grand finale. This is an excellent book for all fans of Shakespeare or of in-depth thinking.

TREASURE ISLAND by Robert Louis Stevenson
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/1378224843.jpg)
(*10)
This novel may well be the best, most famous, and most memorable pirate book ever written, leaving behind a legacy of characters including Long John Silver, Jim Hawkins, and Billy Bones combining to form a wonderful story that you'll HAVE to read for yourself at some point. I have read this book many times, and each time it gets better somehow, all part of the mystical writing charm of Robert Louis Stevenson. I would recommend this book for all people simply seeking a decent adventure story.

A TALE OF TWO CITIES by Charles Dickens
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/8834499.jpg?120)
(*9)
This is possibly Charles Dickens' best book. Set in London and Paris, this novel runs several stories at the same time. A political prisoner rejoins his daughter, two suitors are drawn into Paris at the height of the guillotine, and the overall story is a tale of drama and personal tragedy. This is by far a book to keep your eye on, and both of them while you are reading it! An excellent book, with a definite nine stars bestowed upon it.

THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE by Robert Louis Stevenson
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/1693426.jpg?122)
(*9)
WARNING: MAY CONTAIN DISTURBING SCENES
This is a true classic. At day, mild-mannered, friendly Dr. Jekyll created a terrible potion. At night, he drank that potion and released his inner evil core, Mr. Hyde, a despicable, vile person. After a while, Mr. Hyde began to take over, and in fear of his own sanity, Dr. Jekyll killed himself. All of this is told through the eyes of a man named Utterson, in a way that only Robert Louis Stevenson can manage. This is an excellent horror story.

GULLIVER'S TRAVELS by Jonathan Swift
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/4134898.jpg?129)
(*9)
GULLIVER'S TRAVELS is a semi-well written story about a man who travels to some very exotic locales, following a sad shipwreck, from the island of giants who use him for entertainment to the islands of extremely small people who use him as a military weapon. Gulliver is befuddled until he goes back home and tells his story, where almost no one believes him. GULLIVER'S TRAVELS as a book is quite acceptable, full of charming and interesting storytelling, and is good for reading at any time.

OTHELLO by William Shakespeare
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/4766746.jpg?118)
(*9)
OTHELLO is basically a classic Shakespearean play, in which almost everybody dies at the end. Some of the reasons that each of the plays laboringly written by Shakespeare are how much is left to interpret, the complexity of the main themes, and the excellent read overall. OTHELLO displays each of these characteristics with surprising gusto. This is with out a doubt his easiest play, best for beginning readers of Shakespeare's prolific works.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND by Lewis Caroll
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/8249323.jpg?123)
(*9)
ALICE IN WONDERLAND had been parodied so many times; it must be for good reason. This book is probably the most classic of them all; the Cheshire cat, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the rabbit, and the Queen of Spades are some of the most prominent characters through English literature. ALICE IN WONDERLAND is perfect for fans of THE WIZARD OF OZ, NARNIA, or other stories in which someone gets sucked into a quasi-dimensional, fantasy world. 9 stars.

THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ by L. Frank Baum
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/4603927.jpg?121)
(S*9)
A wonderful book enjoyed many times through the ages, THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ was the first major book written in the setting of a fairy tale land, if not ALICE IN WONDERLAND. All about a girl, Dorothy, and her dog, Toto, who get sucked into a fantasy world, with only one means to get back - the great Wizard of Oz. Along the way, they encounter charming creatures like Munchkins and foes like The Wicked Witch of the West. Great for any age, 9 stars.

THE COUNT OF MONTE-CHRISTO by Alexandre Dumas
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/6307616.jpg?111)
(*9)
Not as famous or as parodied as Dumas' THE THREE MUSKETEERS but probably better in the sense of the plot, THE COUNT OF MONTE-CHRISTO follows the story of Edmond Dantes, who sets out to punish in just the three men who incarcerated him. The Count (his occasional alias) is a merciless man and will go to any end to get what he wants. This is the best book by Alexandre Dumas by far and should be commended by all.

OLIVER TWIST by Charles Dickens
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/647060.jpg?124)
(*9)
OLIVER TWIST is another exceptional book by Charles Dickens - probably the best novel from this author. It features a young boy, Oliver, who had been abandoned since birth in 1800s era England and forced to live in a miserable orphanage finds refuge with a thief called Fagin. Oliver has a great story, full of interesting tales and fun plot twists, following him that everyone should read. OLIVER TWIST is best for kids 10 and up. 9 stars seemed appropriate.

THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY by Oscar Wilde
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/7762356.jpg?125)
(*9)
WARNING: MAY CONTAIN DISTURBING SCENES
A less well-known book than other classics, perhaps, but albeit an excellent one. In this thrilling tale, a man's picture ages instead of himself. This picture also takes on the evil features that "young" Dorian would have had if his life of crime had caught up to him. Oscar Wilde is a good enough author to make the list; for this is his best book. This is a truly gripping horror book that I, personally, could not put down once I had read the first page alone.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL by Charles Dickens
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/5377620.jpg?131)
(*9)
Nobody could say that this story is not a classic. Written about a stingy old miser called Ebenezer Scrooge who changes from a skinflint to a benevolent man through the visits of four spirits that convinced him to change his ways, this holiday tale has been retold several times and may be one of Dicken's largest masterpieces. Good for anybody aged 8 and up who is in need of an uplifting story of merry Christmas spirit, placed at a high 9 stars.

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS by Jules Verne
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/6591000.jpg?132)
(*9)
This is an excellent book that I have read many times since I first got it. Phineas Fogg bet his friends 20,000 pounds that he could get around the world in 80 days, and then embarks upon a spectacular journey across the globe, going in all kinds of places and having all kinds of different adventures. This is definitely one of Jules Verne's best, and I would recommend it to anybody searching for an interesting story. 9 stars.

THE THREE MUSKETEERS by Alexandre Dumas
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/4950853.jpg?103)
(*9)
"All for one and one for all!" Is a saying known even by people who have not read this book. Definitely a true classic, this book follows the story story of aspiring young D'Artagnan as he quests in the King's army with his friends Athos, Portos, and Aramis, encountering many evil personalities, proud soldiers, and tons of obstacles. This is a book written in stone, for it will not bequeath its legacy to another book. Great for readers of all ages.

WHITE FANG by Jack London
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/3438169.jpg?108)
(*9)
This book is a total opposite to Jack London's other novel, CALL OF THE WILD. Instead of feeling an impulse to join the wild wolves, the 3/4 wolf, 1/4 dog White Fang Feels an attraction to society instead. White Fang searched amongst humans until he finally found a suitable owner. This is typical Jack London - an excellent novel about wolves. I'm sure that, upon trying this book, you would remember it as one of the best classics ever, as well.

FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/7449579.jpg?103)
(*9)
FRANKENSTEIN is the classic horror novel for many generations now. Everybody knows the story: A man named Victor Frankenstein creates a genetically mutated half-human that terrorizes him in search of a mate. This may be the best horror novel ever written, maybe better than DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE - and it was written by an eighteen year old at the time. This is an excellent novel for anybody who wishes to get scared out of their pants!

WUTHERING HEIGHTS by Emily Bronte
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/8327557.jpg?104)
(*9)
WUTHERING HEIGHTS is an excellent book involving a love story about a bunch of people who keep cheating on each other, the main problem being between two girls called Catherine and Isabella and their spouses Heathcliff and Edgar,a resulting in a very complex love triangle, and leading romantic lives in a writing talent only belonging to the Bronte sisters. WUTHERING HEIGHTS is the only novel by this author, so it's definitely (and obviously) the best, too.

TOM SAWYER by Mark Twain
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/2824373.jpg?112)
(*9)
MARK TWAIN is possibly one of the most proficient classical American authors. Both TOM SAWYER and HUCKLEBERRY FINN are prodigious works, deserving of heavy recognition. In this book, the mischievous boy Tom is playing with his friend Huckleberry when the boys witness a murder that changes their lives forever, leaving for a large variety of exciting story lines and plot twists.
