TIME MAGAZINE

TIME is a well-known magazine that tries, and succeeds, in keeping you updated about everything and anything significant that is happening in the world. TIME has a great layout and is a consistently reliable news source. TIME has been around since 1926 and is almost as old as NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, but more useful as a whole. I recommend this book to anybody above age 10 who wants a decent understanding of the issues in our world. Very high ten stars.

THE WEEK
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/66813.jpg?132)
(*10)
THE WEEK is an extremely useful magazine that used to be just English and, quite unsurprisingly, summarizes the events at the end of each week. It does it all in a 30-page issue, yet shows each controversial topic in three or four different viewpoints from different authors each time. THE WEEK is even organized in a fun layout, implanting jokes in a few of its pages, with a two-page map showing where events occurred, a contest of the week, and so on. The week is good for kids 8 and up. Extremely high 10 stars.

THE NEW YORKER

(*10)
You don't have to be a New Yorker to read the NEW YORKER - this magazine is good for virtually anyone. Yet another magazine owned by the giant Conde Nast, this magazine mainly focuses on cultural events experienced by various authors. A cool part of this magazine is that it gives you some comic relief, integrating cool one-panel jokes that sometimes relate to the story. The NEW YORKER also publishes interesting books rating various topics.

MENTAL_FLOSS

(*10)
MENTAL_FLOSS is a great magazine for nerds and geeks all around. Eight times a year, it gives you factoids and random trivia in either a funny or informative way. A cool part of this is that they have a quiz at the back and a "features" section which gives you cool information. If you want to know something you don't really have to know, then MENTAL_FLOSS is the magazine for you. Best for kids 8 and up, at a high 10 stars.

NEWSWEEK
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/7255853.jpg?135)
(*10)
NEWSWEEK is a dead magazine. It no longer comes out in print edition, only on the computer. However, it was excellent while it lasted. With its iconic cover that even THE WEEK has begun to emulate after its discontinuation, a "favorite mistake" column, excellent and immediate coverage of all the important stories, and the recap of the past week right in the front, NEWSWEEK was one of the best magazines of all time, yet it took its downfall. You can still see it on a computer, though, and it's best for kids 10 and up.

FINANCIAL TIMES
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/5895699.jpg)
(*10)
FINANCIAL TIMES isn't necessarily concerned with just money issues; the first couple pages are concerned with significant events happening around the globe. It then goes on to elaborate about the stock market, good ideas for next week, business transactions, and so on. FINANCIAL TIMES is a good newspaper for anybody, despite their occupations (if they have one). Best for kids 12 and up.

THE NEW YORK TIMES
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/2312843.jpg)
(*10)
THE NEW YORK TIMES may superficially appear to be the norm of newspapers, but though it is like many others, it has an underlying style that is hard to top. Admittedly, it's organized in a cliche manner, with national, international, capital, science, sports, health, weather, and education sections, but on the other hand, it holds more Pulitzer Prizes than any other newspapers and has been going on for over 160 years. It also doesn't bother with comics, so this is for the hardcore reader.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC FOR KIDS
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/6601206.jpg?240)
(*10)
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC FOR KIDS, or NGK for short, is for younger children up to age 9 or 10 who find themselves bored with the actual magazine. It contains very dynamic and interactive content, like Mad Libs, Weird But True! and a Stump Your Parents Quiz. It also feature one or two main articles about something in wildlife. NGK is the perfect starting step to NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC. 10 stars.

LIFE

(*10)
Another magazine that had been running for years, LIFE magazine started in 1883 but stopped being published in 2007. It was excellent for those 124 years, though. LIFE included a cover similar to TIME or NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, hosted a large photo gallery and humorous sayings throughout the magazine. If you do manage to earth up an old LIFE, be sure to read it and don't give it a miss! Best for kids 8 and up, at ten stars

THE ONION
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/6082930.jpg?167)
(*10)
There may be a couple ONION books out, even one reviewed on this site, but the ONION newspaper is by far the best. Built and made to misinform the gullible population, THE ONION constantly provides spoof stories that are so ridiculous you can just all over sideways laughing like crazy. This is not your normal newspaper, that much is for sure! This may contain some inappropriate content, so it's probably best for kids 12 and up to read these fantastic newspapers.

THE NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS
![Picture](/uploads/1/5/8/8/15888322/733404.jpg)
(*10)
A magazine/newspaper that serves the same function as this website well deserves a good 10 stars. Coming out approximately every month, this huge paper reviews (obviously) books as well as talking about current events. This great magazine is for intellectuals and really dedicated readers only. Best for children above or at 12 years old who are book nerds, you have to read this.

32 DEGREES

(*10)
I speak as a seasoned skier when I say that 32 DEGREES may very well be the best snow-related magazine ever. Full of images and stories about people going on wild skiing adventures, this magazine commissioned by the Professional Ski Instructors of America really gets your blood pumping if you can't wait to get back on the snow. Good for anybody aged 6 and up, this may be one of the only sports-related magazines on the 10 star list for Newspapers and Magazines.

PHYSICS TODAY

(*10)
The American Institute of physics really hit the spot with this fantastic magazine: it tells you all about the current world of science, technology, and (obviously) physics. A magazine that's been going since 1948, it gives you all kinds of cool articles not unlike MENTAL_FLOSS. As a bonus, it tells you about real-world political events and how they integrate with physics, as well as telling you how to avoid the latest deadly disease.
